Unmanned convenience stores to operate in Hanoi

The city will pilot a series of unmanned stores at public space, in which customers pay by scanning QR codes.

Automated convenience stores have been given the green light to start operating in Hanoi this year by the city authority as part of is e-commerce plans for 2018. As targeted, the city aims to push online retail to account for 8% of Hanoi’s total retail revenue and remain the second in 2018 e-Business Index rankings nationally.

In addition, the city will prompt its citizens to joins e-shopping channels, with 85% of distributers, gasoline posts, electricity, water and telecommunication service suppliers accepting non-cash payment; 62% of enterprises owning website and application to public their operation performances.
To fulfil these goals, Hanoi will conduct 14 core missions including to operate a “chain of automated stores”. Operating in Online 2 Offline model, those shops are equipped with QR code system for online booking and payment and e-logistics to deliver products.
Also as planned, the city aims to increase the use of e-commerce, multichannel sales, and application of e-commerce and social media to broaden the domestic market as well as export... Hence, e-commerce websites and apps on safe grocery are welcomed, according to the plan. The city also encourages to apply QR code in online products’ origin traceability, payment, promotion, tax declaration and supporting the connection between producers, suppliers and buyers.  On the other hand, Hanoi heads to strive e-logistics as cushion for e-commerce; enhance transportation service.  
The first convenient store with no cashiers has operated in Ho Chi Minh City since last year.
