VEX Robotics National Championship finds talents for international competitions

The Vietnam VEX Robotics National Championship 2024 is a platform open to all robotics enthusiasts nationwide, with no barriers based on gender, ethnicity or geography.

The Vietnam VEX Robotics National Championship 2024 is taking place in Hanoi on January 20-21 to promote robotics education, develop essential skills for Vietnamese students, and find talent for international competitions.

Mary Beth Polley, Country Public Affairs Officer at the US Embassy, said the program also continues to develop critical and creative thinking as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills for Vietnamese students to compete effectively in the global marketplace, a key goal of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

"This type of hands-on program is invaluable in encouraging Vietnamese students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving global economy. The US Mission is thrilled to partner with Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment on this program, which reflects the strong comprehensive strategic partnership between our two countries and a shared commitment to the economic prosperity of both," she stressed.

The Vietnam VEX Robotics National Championship 2024 is a platform open to all robotics enthusiasts nationwide, with no barriers based on gender, ethnicity, or geography.

Held in accordance with the standards of the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation, the competition aims to identify 10 qualified Vietnamese teams to compete in the world's largest robotics competition - the VEX Robotics World Championship 2024 in Dallas, Texas.

The championship attracted 250 teams from 31 provinces and cities across Vietnam, involving nearly 1,400 students. Through this competition, students from all over Vietnam are gaining experience and skills that will be crucial in contributing to innovation-driven, inclusive economic growth.

To facilitate the evaluation of a large number of games and to select winners and representatives for Vietnam to compete at VEX Worlds, the judging panel is made up of experts in robotics and STEAM education from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Technology, Fulbright University, and other institutions.

"We are excited that students from different regions of Vietnam now have the opportunity to learn and participate in challenges that are no different from those of students in developed countries like the United States. We hope that through experiences like this competition, students will gradually acquire the skills and expertise to compete in the global job market in the future," said Dr Tran Viet Hung, co-founder of STEAM for Vietnam.

Last year's edition of the program provided free robotics training to more than 2,000 students and 500 teachers from 150 schools nationwide. Meanwhile, the VEX IQ Championship 2023 drew more than 150 teams from 30 cities and provinces nationwide.

In May 2023, Vietnam sent 19 robotics teams to the VEX Robotics World Championship 2023 in Texas, the US, ranking fifth in the number of teams and bringing home five prizes.

The VEX Robotics World Championship is an annual international robotics competition held in the United States. Recognized by Guinness World Records in 2018 as the largest robotics competition in the world, the event is organized by the REC Foundation, a non-profit organization with projects focused on STEM and sustainability. Each year, the championship attracts more than 100,000 participants from around the world.
