The Vietnam-Cambodia Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Cooperation Forum took place in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on December 18.
The event was part of activities celebrating the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2017 and the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao said Vietnam always creates favourable conditions for communications and ICT firms with strong financial and technological capacity such as Viettel, VNPT, FPT, VTC and Mobifone to do business abroad, especially in countries with special cooperatives ties like Cambodia.
He expressed his wish that Cambodian authorities would enhance cooperation with Vietnam via experience sharing between State management agencies and close links between the two countries’ enterprises.
Cambodian State Secretary for Posts and Telecommunication Kan Chanmeta lauded Metfone, a member unit of the military-run telecom provider Viettel, for actively working with the Cambodian government to develop e-government, especially amid the fourth industrial revolution.
Participants at the event shared management experience, technological trend and experiences in developing e-government in each country.
Representatives from Metfone, Smart and FPT proposed technological solutions and public-private partnership models to effectively apply IT in finance-banking, education-training and smart urban development amidst digital age.
Many opinions suggested regularly facilitating visits to share experience and boost ICT collaboration, contributing to fuelling socio-economic development in each country.
Under the Cambodia’s master plan on IT and ICT development policy till 2020 announced in August 2014 and April 2016, five priorities will be given to e-government, cyber security, online training, e-commerce and e-tourism while ICT infrastructure and human resources will be strengthened.
