Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has proposed boosting the Vietnam-Japan relations through cooperation in all fields, especially promoting the projects using Japanese ODA, contributing to Vietnam’s strong economic development.The PM made the statement while hosting a reception for Tsutomu Takebe, the special advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, in Hanoi on September 7.

Phuc noted that Japan is Vietnam's leading economic partner, ranking first in terms of the provision of official development assistance (ODA), second concerning investment, third regarding tourism and fourth with regards to trade.
Cooperation between localities, exchanges between Vietnamese and Japanese people have intensified, contributing to deepening the understanding and friendship between the two countries, the PM added.
He affirmed that Vietnam and Japan are extensive strategic partners with mutual sharing of bilateral and global issues. The Vietnamese government highly values this relationship and always does its best to remove all difficulties and obstacles so that this relationship develops strongly.
Phuc also affirmed the important role of Japanese ODA for Vietnam's socio-economic development and reiterated the need to secure a public debt ceiling when negotiating ODA loans. Vietnam has always strictly implemented the commitments between the two countries on the use of ODA as this is not only an economic issue but also a matter of political trust between the two countries, stressed the PM.
Regarding the project of the Vietnam-Japan University, the PM assessed that this is a "lighthouse" project in the two countries' relations, affirming that the Vietnamese government’s viewpoint is to develop a strong, sustainable university with a long-term vision.
Phuc suggested that Tsutomu Takebe and the members in the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance, the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam pay attention to boosting the Vietnam-Japan relationship through cooperation in numerous fields. Especially, he emphasized to promote the projects using Japanese ODA, contributing to Vietnam’s strong economic development, ensuring macro stability and strongly attracting investment from Japanese enterprises into Vietnam.
For his part, Tsutomu Takebe stated that the leaders of the parliamentary alliance always urge him to strive to consolidate the relations between the two countries, adding that he is currently focusing on accelerating the Vietnam-Japan University project.
Tsutomu Takebe expressed his impression on Vietnamese students’ intelligence and industriousness, noting that he always thinks of measures to help the Vietnam-Japan University develop strongly and become a symbol of relations between the two countries.
Therefore, Tsutomu Takebe called on the Vietnamese government and PM Phuc to pay constant attention to the university’s development, especially the financial mechanism. He hopes two nations’ PMs will work out measures to further facilitate the university’s development during their meetings in the time ahead.
Tsutomu Takebe also said that Japan has experience in developing high-tech agricultural infrastructure that could support Vietnam's development in the field.
