Vietnam vehemently opposes China’s inhuman actions against Vietnamese fishing vessels operating legally in Vietnam’s waters.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh told this to reporters at a regular press briefing in Hanoi on August 21 regarding country’s external activities in the coming time and responding to questions of media concern.
In reply to reporters’ queries about Vietnam’s reaction to information saying that Ly Son island fishermen’s fishing boats were smashed and robbed of all their assets on board, the Vietnamese official said Vietnamese competent agencies are urgently verifying this information.
Regarding Vietnam's comment on China to conduct a live ammunition drill in the East Sea from August 20-September 9, Binh said: "According to China’s Maritime Safety Administration, the coordinate location where China has conducted military exercise is near China’s Leizhou peninsula. We hope that, as a member of the UN Security Council, China will make responsible contributions to maintaining peace in the region and the rest of the world."
Verifying the information that there are any Vietnamese in the video clip posted on YouTube on August 17 in which many people were shot dead in the waters of the Fiji Islands, spokesman Le Hai Binh confirmed that there are not any Vietnamese fishing vessels operating in the waters of the Fiji islands so far.
The Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Vietnam Embassy in New Zealand cum Fiji to work closely with relevant agencies in the host nation to verify this information, Binh added.
