After 11 years, the Vietnam Festival in Japan has become a symbol of cultural exchange between the two countries.
The 2019 Vietnam Festival in Japan opened on June 8 in Tokyo with 120 booths divided into thematic sections such as “Traditional food”, “Music”, and “Traditional arts”, the Vietnamese government portal reported.
Attending this year’s festival, visitors had a chance to savor traditional dishes, take part in cultural programs, and enjoy traditional arts performed by Vietnamese and Japanese artists.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism sent a puppetry troupe to this year’s festival. In addition, several Vietnamese pop singers, including Uyen Linh, Pham Quynh Anh and Microwave band also joined Vietnamese students in Japan for some artistic performances.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Vu Hong Nam said that, after 11 years, the Vietnam Festival in Japan has become a symbol of cultural exchange between two countries.
On his side, Deputy Foreign Minister of Japan Norikazu Suzuki said built on the extensive strategic partnership, the friendship between Japan and Vietnam is growing soundly across fields, especially the people-to-people exchange.
The annual festival was organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and aimed at strengthening friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.
The Vietnam Festival in Japan was held for the first time in 2008. The event was part of the activities to celebrate the 35th founding anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.
This year’s festival was expected to welcome some 180,000 people.
Japan has been among the most important markets for Vietnam’s tourism sector. In 2017, about 800,000 Japanese tourists traveled to Vietnam, up 7% against the previous year. Meanwhile, in the first eight months of 2018, Vietnam welcomed more than 465,000 holidaymakers from Japan.
