Vietnam’s lawmakers today voted on two candidates for Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security.
Former Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long was approved by the National Assembly today [June 6] as Deputy Prime Minister for the 2021-2026 term, making him the fourth DPM alongside Le Minh Khai, Tran Hong Ha, and Tran Luu Quang.

The National Assembly’s approval of Le Thanh Long followed the prime minister’s nomination. He earned 468 out of 469 votes at the session today.
Also today, Senior Lieut. General Luong Tam Quang, former Deputy Minister of Public Security, was approved by the National Assembly as Minister of Public Security with 468 out of 469 votes today.
State President To Lam said the appointment of the two high-ranking officials showed the Party and State’s trust and expectations. He praised the two officials for their qualifications, which have been forged through the work process, and their experiences in the fields of law and public security.
In his new position as Deputy PM, Le Thanh Long is expected to provide guidance and oversee the exercise of the socialist rule of law. This includes refining the legal system, safeguarding the Constitution, defending human rights, and ensuring unified state power through effective implementation. At the same time, he is tasked with building a modern and professional public service while creating a streamlined state apparatus.

Le Thanh Long said this is his pride and responsibility to the Party, State, and the people in the context of the entire political system working to refine the regulatory framework, strengthen law enforcement, and ensure defense and security.
Born in 1963 in the central province of Thanh Hoa, Le Thanh Long, who holds a doctorate in Law from Japan, has been Minister of Justice since April 2016.
Public Security Minister Luong Tam Quang, born in 1965in the northern province of Hung Yen, has a bachelor's degree in Security and Law.
