Vietnam highly values foreign policy with Japan

On April 21, President Tran Dai Quang reception in Hanoi to welcome Special Advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Group, Tsutomo Takebe. The President stressed that Vietnam highly values its relations with Japan and considers the country a high-priority partner in its foreign policy.

Speaking of the special advisor’s contributions to Vietnam-Japan ties, the President expected he would continue sharing experience to help Vietnam develop agriculture, respond to climate change, and upgrade infrastructure to serve the country’s sustainable development, especially appreciateing an initiative to establish the Vietnam-Japan University in Vietnam.

The guest informed the host of the progress of the Japan-Vietnam University project, saying that the university will begin operation with its first master’s course on September 9, 2016. He added that President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Nikai Toshihiro had suggested establishing a climate change response centre under the university after the first course opens. 

President Tran Dai Quang confirmed that Vietnam is willing to coordinate with the Japanese side to facilitate the effective operation of the university and welcomes the establishment of the climate change response centre. As cultural and people-to-people exchanges are one of the important factors that consolidate political trust and strengthen bilateral cooperation, Vietnam welcomes and always facilitates the organisation of cultural festivals between the two countries, he added.

The State leader pledged favorable conditions for the university to become operational by this September and called for continued Japanese support for Vietnam in infrastructure development, agricultural production, and climate change response. He said President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance Nikai Toshihiro had suggested establishing a climate change response centre under the university after the first course opens. 

President Tran Dai Quang for his part affirmed his nation's willingness to coordinate with the Japanese side to facilitate the effective operation of the university and welcomes the establishment of the climate change response centre. 

The President said he appreciated Takebe’s efforts to foster the implementation of cooperation projects on culture and education, particularly Vietnam-Japan University. He expressed his belief that with determination from the two countries’ senior leaders and care from Vietnam’s friends like Takebe, the bilateral relations will maintain strong development for the interests of the two peoples, and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
