Vietnam National Administration of Tourism renamed

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will be renamed "The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism" (VNAT) as of July 1, according to the latest decision signed by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung.

The VNAT, an administrative unit under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is Vietnam's tourism regulator.

Event held to boost tourism ties between Vietnam and Cambodia

An event was held in Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh to promote tourism products from Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City to local travel agencies. It aimed to boost tourism relations between the two nations and cities and attract more Cambodian visitors to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa. In 2022, Cambodia was Vietnam's fourth largest source market, with 200,000 travelers, while Vietnam was Cambodia's second, with about 466,000 tourists.

Two new airports planned for Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Quang Tri provinces

Two new airports will be built in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province and the central province of Quang Tri, according to the Ministry of Transport's master plan for airport development by 2030. The two projects may cost VND4.8 trillion (US$204 million) and VND3.8 trillion (US$161.5 million), respectively. Nine existing airports in the central region will be upgraded, and an air transport logistics center will be built to connect the central coast city of Danang and Chu Lai international airports.

Boosting trade cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria

Thirteen Vietnamese and 25 Algerian enterprises involved in importing and exporting agricultural products, food, industrial goods, fishing equipment, packaging materials, and cosmetics sought business opportunities at the Vietnam-Algeria Hybrid Trade Conference on June 18.

To promote bilateral cooperation, the Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria invited Algerian enterprises to visit the Vietnamese goods showcase at the 54th Algiers International Fair (FIA 54), held at the Pins Maritimes Exhibition Center in Algiers from June 20-25, and the Vietnam International Sourcing 2023 event, hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Ho Chi Minh City from September 13-15.

Launch of Vietnam's first entertainment-education channel for children

Vietnam will have its first multimedia entertainment-education channel for children called "We are the World". The project aims to provide a platform for children to express themselves and showcase their talents.

The channel will be produced by K-12 students from Dewey schools and broadcast on YouTube. The channel expects contributions from students in Vietnam and abroad.

Data theft ring involving bank employees busted

Police in the central city of Danang have busted a data theft ring involving dozens of bank employees. The individuals allegedly sold customer accounts for between VND200,000 (US$8.50) and VND1.9 million (US$80.78) each to a 30-year-old man in Lao Cai Province, who then resold them for between VND300,000 (US$8.50) and VND2.2 million (US$93.54) each, making a profit of around VND400 million (US$17,000).

Increased global demand boosts Vietnamese rice exports to highest level

Rising demand for rice boosted Vietnam's exports to the highest level in January-May. Rice exports rose 31% year-on-year to 3.6 million tons, and the value was up 41.6% year-on-year to US$1.92 billion. In May, the export volume was about 724,600 tons, valued at US$390.6 million, up 2.2% and 12.8% year-on-year, respectively. The average price of Vietnamese rice also leaped by 8.3% year-on-year to US$529 per ton, the highest since July 2021.
