Flag-hoisting ceremony marks ASEAN’s 57th anniversary 

A flag-raising ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Hanoi on August 8 to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations [August 8, 1967-2024].

Vietnam has always made efforts and contributions to a united and strong ASEAN, as the country has considered ASEAN cooperation and connectivity as a top priority and strategic choice.

Vietnam-Japan to promote ODA cooperation

The Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee issued a joint press release on its 12th meeting in Tokyo on August 7.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to advance new Japanese ODA projects under the new ODA Charter, focusing on strategic infrastructure, digital transformation, green transition, climate change response, and health care.

Vietnam calls for stricter vessel monitoring to combat IUU fishing

At a meeting with the Fishing Vessel Monitoring Center under the Department of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on August 7, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang called for measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

He ordered MARD to coordinate with other ministries and sectors to address technical issues, provide technical guidance to localities, and share relevant data and information with the Ministry of Defense.

Vietnamese dishes listed in top 100 Asian stir-fry ones 

Five Vietnamese dishes have made the list of the top 100 Asian stir-fry dishes by TasteAtlas, a respected culinary website specializing in food from around the world.  

They include rau muong xao toi (morning glory stir-fry), pho xao (stir-fry pho), mien xao cua (crab meat and glass noodle stir-fry), qua su su xao toi (chayote squash and garlic stir-fry), and oc huong (sweet snails). Morning glory stir-fry is ranked 13th, the highest among the Vietnamese dishes on the list, with a rating of 4.3/5 stars. TasteAtlas describes it as a traditional Vietnamese dish that's suitable for vegetarians. 

Lao Prime Minister seeks greater scientific cooperation with Vietnam

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone sought ways to deepen cooperation with the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology at a meeting in Vientiane on August 7. He hoped the institution would send experts to assist Laos in several key areas and strengthen cooperation in training high-quality human resources.

Royal Bhutan Airlines to launch direct flights to Vietnam

Drukair Royal Bhutan Airlines has completed the approval process to commence direct flights to Vietnam. The airline will operate three flights per week from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi to Paro. The airline has appointed Hong Ngoc Ha Travel Company as its official General Sales Agent (GSA) partner. Established in 1981, Drukair acts as a bridge between this isolated Himalayan nation and the world, bringing cultural experiences to visitors.

Binh Dinh launches program to promote tourism, cinema and sports

An event to promote martial arts culture, tourism, cinema and sports will be held in the central province of Binh Dinh from September 2 to 4. It will include activities such as visiting famous tourist sites, gala dinners, martial arts performances, music festivals, and seminars on tourism promotion.
