JICA supports medical equipment upgrades for K Hospital
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement with the Vietnamese Government on May 28 to provide up to US$317 million in assistance for the "Medical Equipment Upgrade Project at K Hospital" in Hanoi. This will help Vietnam's leading cancer hospital meet the growing demand for medical examination and treatment.
In recent years, Vietnam has seen a sharp increase in deaths from non-communicable diseases, particularly cancer. K Hospital is the country's leading oncological facility, conducting around 446,800 screenings, treating 68,600 inpatients and performing around 30,700 surgeries each year.

Vietnamese students win 3rd prize in Huawei ICT competition
Two Vietnamese students, Dang Phuong Khoi Nguyen from Danang FPT University and Nguyen Dac Phuc from the University of Economics - Technology for Industries, won third place in the Network Track category at the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Global Final held in Shenzhen, China, from May 23 to 26.
Now in its 8th year, the competition brings together more than 170,000 students from 2,000 universities and colleges in 80 countries and territories.
Ha Long police crackdown on illegal night fishing
Police in Ha Long City, the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh, said on May 28 that they are cracking down on unlicensed and unreported night fishing activities in Ha Long Bay to ensure tourist safety and environmental protection. Tourists are often lured to night fishing by advertisements on social media, and local police have punished 12 unlicensed boats so far this year, including seven for illegal night squid fishing.
Hanoi's exports reach US$7 billion in Jan-May
Hanoi's export turnover in January-May was estimated at more than US$7 billion, up 7.7% year-on-year, according to the city's Statistics Office.
Major exports in the first five months of the year included computers, electronics, and spare parts ($995 million), machinery ($920 million), and agricultural products ($629 million).
EU encourages green investment in Vietnam
Many EU countries, including France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, and European financial institutions, such as the European Investment Bank (EIB), and French Development Agency (AFD), have pledged to provide $16.81 billion to Vietnam to help the country achieve the goal of zero net emissions by 2050 with energy transition.
Myriam Ferran, Deputy Director General of the European Commission's Directorate General for International Partnership, said Vietnam has always been an important partner of the EU in the ASEAN region.
VITAK and Japan's Kyushu region promote human resources cooperation
The Vietnam Information Technology Association in Kyushu (VITAK) signed a memorandum of understanding with GAG Japanese Language Institute on Japanese language training for Vietnamese IT engineers.
Hosted by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, the event highlighted the importance of developing high-quality resources to promote socio-economic development and enhance competitiveness in the context of globalization and the 4th Industrial Revolution. It also witnessed the signing of a labor supply contract under the technical intern training program between JHL Group of Vietnam and Ohama Group of Japan.
