Vietnam to host 13th ASEAN Schools Games
The 13th ASEAN Schools Games (ASG), a competition where students come together to shine, will be held in the central city of Danang from May 29 to June 9. The games will bring together 1,300 athletes and coaches from sports delegations from 10 countries in Southeast Asia. The athletes will compete in 6 disciplines: Swimming, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Pencak Silat, Vovinam with a total of 107 events.
Phu Quoc to resume flights to India
Phu Quoc Island wants to resume the temporarily suspended direct flight to India, Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee Huynh Quang Hung said at a meeting with the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City on May 22. The island is estimated to receive about 32,800 Indian visitors in 2023. In the first four months of this year, about 12,000 travelers from the Southeast Asian country visited the island.

Binh Dinh to launch a series of summer tourism activities in 2024
Under the theme "Quy Nhon - Sea Paradise: Shining and Developing," the 2024 summer tourism season in the central province of Binh Dinh will officially kick off on June 8 with the World TeqBall Tournament 2024 (from June 6 to 9) at Victory Square in Quy Nhon City; VnExpress Marathon Quy Nhon 2024 (from June 21 to 23); the conference on trade and tourism development between the southern provinces and Indian partners (June 6), among 18 major events. The program is expected to last until August 20.
Vietnam ESG Forum Launched
The launch ceremony of the Vietnam Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Forum was held on May 22 in Hanoi, bringing together stakeholders to discuss, share experiences and propose solutions for sustainable development in Vietnam. The Vietnam ESG Forum and the awards ceremony for organizations and units committed to sustainable development are expected to be held in the fourth quarter. This event is expected to attract the participation of leading domestic and international experts, helping to raise awareness and knowledge of ESG for the Vietnamese business community.
Switzerland-Vietnam Economic Forum 2024 to be held in Zurich
The Switzerland-Vietnam Economic Forum (SVEF) with the theme "Strengthening Relations, Building the Future" will be held on June 4 at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Discussions at the event are expected to stimulate initiatives and policies to further strengthen economic ties and mutual benefits, as well as create opportunities for investment cooperation between organizations and enterprises of the two countries.
Ho Chi Minh City to host the 2024 Vietnam International Semiconductor Exhibition
With 150 booths, the 2024 Vietnam International Semiconductor Exhibition will be held from October 31 to November 2 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City. Activities at the event will include: on-site and online business matchmaking programs for participating companies and direct trading at facilities through factory tours; seminars on "Semiconductor Supply Chain in Vietnam" and "Semiconductor Technology and Future Development in Vietnam".
EVN denies sending power cut request to local businesses
The state-owned electricity company EVN has denied that it has asked businesses and manufacturers in the northern region to reduce their electricity consumption by 30%. EVN claimed that it has been taking measures to ensure sufficient power supply since the beginning of the year and therefore has no plans to cut power supply.
EVN has reportedly sent a request to northern businesses asking them to "voluntarily" reduce their electricity consumption.
WWF to work with Vietnam to save saola
The World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) announced on May 22 a project to save the Asian unicorn saola from the brink of extinction. Under the program, WWF and the authorities of six central coastal provinces from Nghe An to Quang Nam will track the species and provide the necessary information to facilitate the breeding of saola and save the animal.
One of the world's rarest large mammals, the saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis), also known as the spindlehorn, Asian unicorn or more rarely the Vu Quang bovid, is a forest-dwelling bovid native to the Truong Son mountain range in Vietnam and Laos.
