Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomes Hyosung’s investment and job expansion
Hyosung plans to invest an additional US$4 billion and create 10,000 jobs, Chairman Cho Hyun-joon said during his meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The Prime Minister welcomed the investment and pledged support for sustainable projects. Hyosung will also expand into high-tech sectors and collaborate with ADNOC to strengthen ties with Vietnam, South Korea, and the UAE.
European billionaires gather in Ha Long Bay for climate action
About 200 European billionaires will arrive in Ha Long Bay by superyachts for the Climate Art Festival in January 2025. The event, running from January 13 to 19, will attract over 80,000 attendees. Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was chosen due to its symbolic value and ecosystem threatened by climate change, highlighting the festival’s environmental focus.

Hanoi starts vaccination drive to combat measles
Hanoi on October 14 launched its 2024 measles vaccination campaign. The city dispatched inspection teams to ensure a safe and effective rollout. Eight districts, including Long Bien and Dong Anh, began vaccinations, targeting 70,000 individuals, including children aged 1-5 and at-risk healthcare workers. The campaign aims to vaccinate over 95% of eligible children and healthcare staff against measles-rubella.
ASEAN-Mercosur dialogue highlights Vietnam's role as a key connector
Vietnam's Ambassador to Argentina, Ngo Minh Nguyet, and the Ambassadors of Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay discussed cooperation opportunities between Mercosur and ASEAN, with a focus on Vietnam, at a dialogue on October 14. Vietnam plays a key role in connecting ASEAN and Mercosur, promoting trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the two regions. The trade turnover between Vietnam and Argentina, one of the Mercosur member countries, reached US$4.88 billion in 2023.
Vietnam and Romania pledge enhanced cooperation in trade
Vietnam and Romania committed to enhancing their trade and economic cooperation during an October 14 meeting between Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long and Prahova Chamber of Commerce President Aurelian Nicolae Gogulescu. Leveraging the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), in which Romania is a member, both countries recognized the positive growth in bilateral ties but noted that it remains modest compared to its potential. From January to August, bilateral trade reached USD 350.5 million, a 37.5% increase from 2023.
Vietnam launches ASEAN eco-school awards to promote sustainability
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment launched the ASEAN Vietnam Eco-School Award 2024 on October 14. With 60 awards totaling nearly US$40,000, the program promotes sustainable school models and raises environmental awareness. Top schools will be nominated for ASEAN environmental events. Applications are open from October 7 to November 10, 2024.
