European Commission to inspect IUU fishing in Vietnam
A delegation from the European Commission (EC) will visit Vietnam on October 10-18 to work with Vietnamese authorities on efforts to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said on September 25.
A high-level dialogue session between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the EC working group will take place on October 18, 2023 to discuss the findings of the inspection.

Vietnamese products promoted at Frech Système U supermarket chain
A delegation of 15 Vietnamese enterprises in agriculture, food, and textile industries are promoting their products at the Système U supermarket chain in France as part of the Vietnamese Goods Week in France.
The event was inaugurated on September 25 in the presence of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai, Vietnamese Ambassador to France Dinh Toan Thang, Senator of Seine-et-Marne, Vincent Eblee, Mayors of Lognes and Noisiel, executives of Système U Group and Vietnamese company T&T Food.
Vietnam wins first silver medal at Asian Games
Shooter Ngo Huu Vuong won Vietnam's first silver medal at the Asian Games 2023 (ASIAD 19) on September 25. He had won two bronze medals at the previous two ASIAD competitions.
The ASIAD 19 is underway from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou, China's Zhejiang. At the end of the competition day on September 25, Vietnam had won one silver and four bronze medals.
Australia fund provides US$6.4 billion for Tin Thanh Group's green projects
Sydney-based commercial finance provider Acuity Funding signed an agreement on September 25 to provide Vietnam's Tin Thanh Group up to US$6.4 billion. Of the total, US$1 billion will be used to develop four biomass power plants and thousands of hectares of high-yield sugar cane in central and southern Vietnam; $1.7 billion to build a tire manufacturing plant and trucking services in the US state of South Carolina; and $3.7 billion for green hydrogen in South Carolina.
EVN urges speedy purchase of power from Lao suppliers
State-owned power utility Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has advised the Ministry of Industry and Trade to expedite the purchase of more electricity from Laos to boost supplies to the north in 2025. Under the National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8) and cooperation agreements between the two governments, Vietnam will purchase a total of 3,000 MW of electricity from Laos by 2025 and 5,000 MW by 2030.
The imported power would meet the demand in the North, which could face a shortage in the next two years.
Tenements must be better managed: HOREA
The Ho Chi Minh City Real Estate Association (HoREA) has proposed the National Assembly and the Ministry of Construction tighten rules on the construction quality of tenement buildings, known as "mini-apartments" to ensure safety for the type of housing that is affordable for low-income people.
International arrivals to Vietnam by air reaches 23.7 million in Jan-Sep
In the first nine months of the year, airports across the country handled a total of 89 million passengers, up 20% year-on-year, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam reported. Among them, international passenger traffic increased by 266.8% to 23.7 million, while domestic throughput decreased by 3.6% to 65.2 million.
The top 10 source markets sending the most passengers to Vietnam include South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan (China), Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong (China), Australia, and India.
