Vietnam prepares to send more officers to join UN peacekeeping missions
Vietnam is negotiating with the UN to substitute the UK’s military engineering team in UN Peacekeeping Mission in February 2020.

The UN is conducting a review on the capacity profile of the Vietnam Military Engineering Team. Accordingly, the UN has asked Vietnam to respond to a number of contents in the process of developing a list of main equipment and self-sustaining equipment, for an expected inspection around mid-2019.
Colonel Hoang Kim Phung, director of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Bureau, said that his department has organized training courses of peacekeeping deployment, English and French for the Vietnam Army Team.
Vietnam is negotiating with the UN to substitute the UK’s military engineering team in UN Peacekeeping Mission in February 2020, when the UK troops ended their term and withdrew from the South Sudan Mission, Phung added.
He stressed that the UN expressed its support for Vietnam to replace this position if Vietnam’s team fully meets the UN’s criteria and requirements on capacity, personnel and equipment.
