Thua Thien–Hue has completed preparations for the 10th edition of the biennial Hue Festival.

So far art troupes from 21 countries have registered to perform at the week-long event alongside domestic artistic delegations, Dung added.
The festival this year will direct the spotlight on the city’s five world heritages which are the Hue Complex of Monuments, Hue Royal Court Music, Woodblocks of Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945), Nguyen Dynasty's royal documents and the royal literature on Hue royal architecture.
Many side events will also be held, such as the International Gastronomy Fair, a beer carnival, an international trade fair, a traditional boat race on Huong (Perfume) River, a kite festival, and the Hue Poetry Festival.
Several exhibitions will introduce to visitors the poetry on Hue royal architectural works inscribed on truc chi (bamboo pulp) paper, the beauty of orchids and bonsai, and cultural heritage with integration and development.
In addition, the show with themed “The Monarchic Saga of Hue” feature performances on Vietnam’s island sovereignty will be held in the former Imperial Palace on April 28 and 30 during Hue Festival 2018.
The Monarchic Saga of Hue or Van hien Kinh ky is a unique art performance that comprises different genres of royal music, dance and poem singing as well as the modern staging techniques of LED backdrop, light effects and fireworks, according to Huynh Tien Dat, deputy director of the Hue Festival Centre, the event’s organizer.
“The Monarchic Saga of Hue show will be a key part of this edition of the Hue Festival,” Dat was quoted as saying.
The Hue Festival is a biennial cultural event taking the first time in 2000. It gathers art troupes nationwide and from other countries in the former imperial capital city. This year’s event is the 10th version of the event.
In the first quarter of 2018, Thua Thien-Hue welcomed more than 1.1 million visitors, up 39.5% from the same period last year, including 534,600 foreigners, a surge of 70.3%. In 2018, the Thua Thien-Hue tourism sector aims to serve up to 4.2 million visitors, up about 12% year on year, with revenue of about VND4.2 trillion (US$184 million), up 15 – 16% over the previous year, according to Thua Thien-Hue Department of Tourism.
The festival, which is slated to open on April 27.
