Roughly VND33 trillion (US$1.43 billion) or 30% of stolen assets involved in corruption cases in Vietnam in 2018 has been recovered, reports showed at a meeting against corruption chaired by Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Nguyen Phu Trong.

In 2018, relevant agencies discovered more than 1,000 hectares of land and an amount of VND108 trillion (US$4.7 billion) misused by state officials and bodies.
In the year, 2,080 individuals and groups involving in the mismanagement were recommended for punishments.
Since the beginning of the term in 2016, inspectors have found more than 7,200 hectares of land and nearly VND319 trillion (US$13.87 billion) wrongly used by state agencies and officials, the reports showed, giving no details on recovery rate and punishments.
Anti-corruption remains crucial task in 2019
Facing the complicated movements in political systems, the president, who chairs the committee, affirmed that fighting against corruption remains one of the most important tasks in 2019.
He ordered authorized agencies to focus on the recovery of stolen assets claimed in corruption cases and prevent petty corruption.
In 2018, the police force completed investigating 23 cases with 222 involvers, marking an on-year a rise of 43.75% in terms of cases, prosecuted 20 cases with 251 defendants, up 66.7% in the number of cases, and brought to court 23 cases with 304 defendants, up five-fold from 2017.
In the year, many high-ranking officials were brought to justice, including ex-Politburo member Dinh La Thang, some police generals including Phan Van Vinh and Nguyen Thanh Hoa.
