Vietnam screens best 50 films marking 80th National Day

Selected Vietnamese films highlight history, culture, and aspirations, reflecting the nation’s journey through 80 years of independence and development.

THE HANOI TIMES — Local audiences and visitors to Hanoi for the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2) will enjoy 50 Vietnamese films for free until September 5.

The free film screening is part of the ongoing national exhibition titled “80 Years of Independence - Freedom - Happiness" celebrating the National Day at the National Exposition Center in Hanoi's Dong Anh Commune.

The selected films highlight the richness of Vietnamese identity, blending traditional values with modern perspectives and vividly portraying the nation’s society and people.

Audiences will have the chance to enjoy well-known works such as Dao, Pho va Piano (Dao, Pho and Piano), Mat Biec (Dreamy Eyes), Em be Ha Noi (The Little Girl of Hanoi), Lat mat 7: Mot dieu uoc (Face Off 7: One Wish), and Lat mat 8: Vong tay nang (Face Off 8: Embrace of Light).

Other films include the ones depicting President Ho Chi Minh, including Nguyen Ai Quoc o Hong Kong (Nguyen Ai Quoc in Hong Kong) and Ho Chi Minh: Hinh anh cua nguoi (Ho Chi Minh - The Portrait of a Man).

Historical films like Dia dao - Mat troi trong bong toi (Tunnel: Sun in the Dark), Luy thep Vinh Linh (Vinh Linh Steel Rampart), and Mui co chay (The Scent of Burning Grass) also feature prominently, honoring the August Revolution (August 19) and the enduring strength of national unity.

Alongside the screenings, audiences will have opportunities to interact with actors, directors, and film crews throughout the event.

These exchanges bring artists closer to the public, offering insights into the creative process while nurturing pride and love for Vietnamese cinema.

The film screening will run until September 5.
