Vietnam team put into an “easy to breathe” group at 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup draw
According to the results of the draw for the final round of the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup held in Suwon, the Republic of Korea (RoK) late March 15, U20 Vietnam team was put in Group E with France, New Zealand and Honduras.
2017 FIFA U20 World Cup draw is the first time Vietnam has attended the tournament and the team were placed in the fourth seeded group.
Prior to the draw, many experts feared that the young Vietnamese players would probably be in the same group with football powerhouses like Germany and Argentina.
The result was quite fortunate for Coach Hoang Anh Tuan
The No. 1 candidate for a slot in Round 16 in Group E is definitely U20 France with young its talents who are considered superior compared to others.
The remaining ticket will be subject to fierce competition between U20 Vietnam and two representatives from the Americas and Oceania.
Beside the first two places in each group, there will be four more teams who ranked third with the best performance selected to go forward. This is considered a great opportunity and also a motivation for U20 Vietnam to try in every match to come.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan was optimistic when mentioning the opportunity of his team. This is the first time Vietnam has participated in a world-class football event, he added.
"We need to make a lot of effort to play well. The team needs to take advantage of the coming time to prepare well and I hope we will make a surprise at our first U20 world tour. We hope fans and the media will always follow and support us,” coach Tuan said.
The 2017 U20 World Cup finals will take place from May 20 to June 11 in six cities in the RoK.
According to the schedule, in their first clash, U20 Vietnam will meet U20 New Zealand on May 22. The second will be followed on May 25 with France and the third with Honduras on May 28.
