At a recent meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh made it clear that it is necessary to solve the disputes in the East Sea via peaceful measures in line with international law, especially the UNCLOS, as well as the strict implementation of the important concensuses reached by leaders of the two countries.Vietnam's top diplomat made the statement when he met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on August 3 within the framework of the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Earlier, at the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the ASEAN and China have created a draft document for a code of conduct in the South China Sea that would form the basis for future negotiations.
The code of conduct is meant to rule out further conflict in the area. ASEAN and China started negotiations in March after five years of discussions.
At the bilateral meeting, the two countries' top diplomats agreed to continue reinforcing and strengthening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.
They pledged to actively solve remaining problems in cooperation projects, and maintain the stable and positive development pace of bilateral partnership.
Minh highly spoke of the progress made in the two nations’ relation during the past time, asking China to actively apply effective measures that help grow the bilateral trade as well as reduce the trade deficit of Vietnam with China.
He also offered Yi to send his invitation to Chinese leaders to attend the World Economic Forum ASEAN in Hanoi on September 11-13.
