Vietnam to assist 30,000 businesses in digital transformation by 2022

The Ministry of Information and Communications held a conference on March 24 on promoting a support program for small and medium enterprises (SME) in digital transformation in 2022.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) will continue to assist 30,000 local businesses in using selected digital transformation platforms to optimize their operations this year.

It is one of the main goals of the MIC’s plan, which includes drawing the participation of 30 Make-in-Vietnam digital platforms, having 150,000 visits to the Smedx.vn portal as well as sending text messages to 200,000 business owners encouraging them to undertake digital transformation and introducing the SMEdx Program.

A new feature of the SMEdx Program this year is the toolkit to assess the digital transformation level of enterprises (Digital Business Index - DBI).

According to Duong, enterprises can base on the status quo and the criteria in this set of indicators to know how far have they gone in the internal digital transformation. The Ministry will also build on the indicators, considering them as a basis for completing specific action programs to drive digital transformation in companies and develop the digital economy.

In 2022, businesses will receive financial support for digital transformation from the State budget. Specifically, according to Decree No. 80, they will receive a subsidy of 50% of the cost if they rent or purchase digital transformation platforms and solutions certified by the MIC.

Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Huy Dung said in 2022, the ministry will strive together with localities to implement a program to promote SMEs’ digital transformation, thereby forming a consulting network on digital economy and organizing a system of digital technology groups at the grassroots level to support people in digitalization.

Deputy Minister Dung said that the MIC is committed to evaluating and selecting excellent Vietnamese digital platforms to introduce to businesses. He emphasized that the digital platform is a breakthrough solution to popularize digital technology and it into a service and one of the inputs for production like electricity and water.

Nguyen Trong Duong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Enterprise Management, said that after nearly two years of implementing the National Digital Transformation Strategy, and 11 months of implementing the Program, 23 excellent Make in Vietnam digital platforms were announced, and introduced to businesses via Smedx.vn.

In particular, thanks to a variety of approaches, in 2021, more than 16,000 businesses have opted for the solutions in the SMEdx program for digital transformation.
