Vietnam to soon resume flights to China, Cambodia, Laos and Taiwan

The aviation authorities have proposed reopen six international routes between Vietnam and countries where Covid-19 is put under control.

In addition to reopening flight routes to Japan and South Korea, the Ministry of Transport plans to restore four routes to China, Taiwan (China), Cambodia, and Laos.

On September 3, the Ministry of Transport and related ministries asked the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control for authorization to resume international commercial flights from September 15, . Dinh Viet Thang, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, told local media.

Earlier this week, ministries and agencies had a meeting to discuss the plan to welcome inbound passengers after international air services are resumed.

The CAAV has proposed reopening six regular international routes between Vietnam and Taiwan, China's Guangzhou, Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, and Laos.

Once the border is are reopened, inbound passengers under isolation per week would be nearly 5,000 in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Guangzhou (China) route would be operated with two round-trip flights per week. In particular, Vietnam Airlines/Pacific Airlines will conduct one flight, and the Chinese side will fly the other. The number of incoming passengers to be under quarantine in Ho Chi Minh City is estimated at 540 per week.

The CAAV has agreed with the South Korean and Japanese authorities on the air routes to be reopened which are from Seoul to Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh and vice versa, and between Tokyo and Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh.

Regarding flight frequency, national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will fly the route connecting Hanoi to Tokyo and Vietjet Air will operate route between Ho Chi Minh City and Tokyo. The maximum number of quarantined arrivals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City would be approximately 560 per week.

For South Korea, Vietnam Airlines plans to operate the Hanoi – Seoul route with one flight per week while Vietjet will operate on the Ho Chi Minh City – Seoul route. The number of quarantined arrivals in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is estimated at 650 per week.

Meanwhile, the connection with Taipei – Taiwan will be operated by Vietnam Airlines in Ho Chi Minh City and Vietjet in Hanoi. Some 620 guests are expected to arrive in Hanoi per week and 700 in Ho Chi Minh City.

Some routes to Laos and Cambodia would be resumed with a frequency of one flight per week, operated by Vietnam Airlines.
