Vietnam-UK strategic partnership flourishing

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai hailed the growing Vietnam-UK strategic partnership in various field at an April 28 reception for UK Lord De Mauley, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Natural Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in Hanoi.

Hai said Vietnam-UK economic and trade cooperation has seen positive developments in recent years with last year's two-way trade reaching US$4 billion and both nations are set to elevate UK direct foreign investment (FDI) in Vietnam to US$3 billion.

“The Vietnamese Government is sparing no efforts to improve the investment environment and create favorable conditions for foreign businesses including those from the UK to operate effectively in Vietnam.” Hai said.

The Deputy PM said Vietnam wants to strengthen cooperation with the UK- the country has qualified scientific and technological development and a good education and training system.

The number of Vietnamese students studying in the UK tends to increase and the two sides have accelerated the implementation of the Vietnam-UK University construction project in the central city of Danang, including establishing the Vietnam-UK Research and Training Institute.

Hai hailed the UK’s role and its initiatives in wildlife conservation and anti- trafficking of wild animals and suggested it support Vietnam in this field and provide its ODA for the country’s climate change adaptation, green technology development and scientific research .

Lord De Mauley told his host that his nation is keen on boosting agriculture and food cooperation with Vietnam in the time ahead.

He said each year the UK government provides about VND 70 billion for Vietnam to develop science and technology and his delegation is working with the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology to implement this funding effectively and properly.

The UK Lord said he hopes that the two sides will achieve better results in wildlife conservation and Vietnam will help UK exports achieve greater penetration of the Vietnamese market in the future.
