Vietnamese architects win Ashui Awards 2014

A number of famous Vietnamese architects won Ashui Awards 2014 for their outstanding works, announced by E-portal website Ashui.com on December 31.

Accordingly, Nguyen Hoa Hiep and his a21 Studio triumped “Architect of the Year” title for The Chapel.

Previously, The Chapel won the 2014 World Architecture Festival (WAF)’s building of the year title and was also winner of the Small Project of the Year, Landscape of the Year and Future Project of the Year awards.

The Chapel is a community space in a new urban ward on the outskirt of Ho Chi Minh City. As the result of estate crisis, the surrounding area is lacking of communal centres, therefore, the Chapel is designed to be the place for people to participate in activities such as conferences, weddings and exhibitions.

The “House for trees” architecture project, an initiative of Vietnam’s Vo Trong Nghia company, won Building of the Year title.

The special house’s design offers an inspiring solution to growing pollution and shortage of green space in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

It includes five separate prismatic blocks, each of which contains a tree planted on its roof.
It was completed this year, on 350 square meters in Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Binh District and was the first of its kind in Vietnam built with a bamboo framework.

“S House 3” work of Vo Trong Nghia company also secured “Low -Cost House” title.

Besides, Vu Linh Quang of ARDOR Architects Company also pocketed “Young Architect” and Ass.Pro Nguyen Minh Hoa bagged the author of the publication and architecture title.

Founder of Ashui.com Le Viet Ha said that the event aims to honour Vietnamese architects who have excellent works, contributing to finding out architectural trend in the future.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at Grand Hotel Saigon on January 11, 2015.
