Vietnamese cuisine reflected through lens of German photographer

German photographer Astrid Schulz will present her photos depicting the full flavours of Vietnamese cuisine at an exhibition that will open to the Hanoian public on Saturday.

Being passionate about food and driven by the idea of preservation of cultural traditions, Schulz celebrates the diversity and richness of Vietnamese cooking through photography.

However, instead of taking photos of finished dishes, the artist chooses to examine different ingredients used in preparing a dish and combines them to create new objects.

In addition, the display will present portrait photos of those Vietnamese people directly involved in the production chain of food. Schulz visited small-scale farmers and family-run businesses to take their portraits, with the intention of reconstructing relationships to the true origin of food.

Her exhibition will be ongoing at 9A4M Studio within the Zone 9 Art Complex, 9 Tran Thanh Tong Street, through December 14.

The exhibition was presented in Hue in late November.
