Vietnamese Gov’t evacuates 338 citizens from conflict zone in northern Myanmar
The Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar has so far identified some 800 nationals eligible for repatriation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Security and other partner countries, evacuated 338 Vietnamese citizens stranded in the conflict-ridden border area of northern Myanmar on December 4.

Aligning with Vietnam's humanitarian policy and prioritizing the safety of its citizens, the Government is covering all costs associated with the repatriation of these citizens.
Given the ongoing unrest in Myanmar, which poses a significant threat to Vietnamese nationals in the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remains actively engaged in this issue.
The agency stated that local authorities, Vietnamese overseas missions, and partner countries are making the best efforts to repatriate Vietnamese nationals.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar has identified over 800 people with valid travel documentation eligible for repatriation. The repatriation is being conducted in groups, with the first group returning on December 4.
The majority of these citizens, including young people, teenagers, infants, and pregnant women, had ventured abroad to work in online gambling houses in Myanmar's northern states.
"They found themselves stranded and abandoned in the conflict between Myanmar military forces and ethnic minorities in the area, exacerbated by mistreatment by their employers," noted the embassy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a new warning to Vietnamese citizens, urging them to be vigilant if they are offered opportunities for "easy, well-paying jobs" overseas with no formal requirements or contracts. People are advised to thoroughly research job details, the employing entity, expected work locations, the recommender's background, insurance policies, and benefits before deciding to go abroad.
