Viet Van, a photo journalist from Lao Dong Newspaper, has won the first prize at the 6th Chang International Fine Art Photo Contest in Thailand.

The old lady’s nostalgia for her husband is described through the photos of the things that remind her of him – “ao dai”, the Vietnamese traditional tunic she wore on their wedding day in 1965, his love letter to her during wartime, his old typewriter and more. The photos were part of Viet Van’s personal project, named “My mother” (Part 2).
The second prize went to an Iranian photographer, Saeed Rezvanian, for a photo collection named “Our Scattered Parts,” followed by “Bad Memory” by Patara Mesuwan from Thailand.
The award ceremony will take place at the end of this year in Bangkok, Thailand. The Chang International Fine Art Photo Contest was initiated in 2011 by Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev) and is an annual event organized in collaboration with The Royal Photographic Society of Thailand (RPST). We aim to promote and support fine art photography and photographers at an international level.
In 2016, Viet Van also won first prize in the food category at the International Color Awards – Los Angeles in the United States for his photo “The Breakfast”. Van has won 60 international awards in his career, including eight first-place prizes in France, UK, Australia and the US.
He was the only Vietnamese national honoured at the Pollux Annual Awards, conducted by the UK-based Worldwide Photography Gala Awards, on four separate occasions. In addition, Van has won the "Prix de la Photographie, Paris” in France for six consecutive years.
