Vietnam's first 5G station supplies equal access speed with the US’s
Viettel said that their team conducted technical tests on the field, including evaluation of backward compatibility (with existing 4G, 3G and 2G devices) and optimal coverage for different speeds and services.
Vietnam’s Military Telecom Industry Group (Viettel) has completed installing its first 5G station near Hoan Kiem Lake in downtown Hanoi and successfully piloted 5G with access speeds ranging from 600 - 700Mbps, equal to the speed provided for customers of Verizon's 5G network in the US, local media reported.
Viettel said that their team conducted technical tests on the field, including evaluation of backward compatibility (with existing 4G, 3G and 2G devices) and optimal coverage for different speeds and services.
The biggest challenge is that the 5G network still needs to be optimized from the test frequency, the number of frequencies, the terminals, to the correlation of coverage and location, among others.
When the the tests are completed, access speed will really accelerate. Viettel will hold a demonstration of 5G speed and performance in early May 2019.
With the latest move, Vietnam is one of the earliest countries in the world to test 5G, together with a few countries like the US, South Korea and China.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that Vietnam will not miss this 5G opportunity as what happened with 4G technology.
Up to now, Viettel and MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation are Vietnam’s two network operators granted 5G technology test licenses. 5G with the capacity to increase bandwith and speed will fundamentally change many industries such as manufacturing, transportation, health, agriculture and smart cities. 5G will create new industries and billions of devices, sensors, and will trigger innovation in almost every industry, Minister Hung added.
He stressed that 5G technology is the first data technology designed for internet of things, with an array of new features such as low latency, low power consumption.
He noted that 5G network is a new generation mobile broadband which supplies higher speeds, smoother online service experience and better stability for users. 5G network is also the backbone of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
“5G technology will create a connection revolution. 2G/3G/4G connected seven billion people, 5G will connect trillions of devices, convey the entire physical world into virtual worlds, fundamentally change human life, when everything speaks like people,” the local media quoted Minister Hung as saying.
