Vietnamese engineers from the Saigon Hi-tech Park Incubation Centre (SHTP-IC) and the S3 Technology Corporation (STC) announced their latest results on developing the Smart Streetlight System (S3) on May 4.

The system is developed based on STC’s project which won the first prize of the Internet of Things Start-up Competition in January 2016.
The new lighting system incorporates energy-efficient Light Emitting Diodes (LED) lamps, solar controllers installed on the lamp-posts, signal transmitters and a central management system. These components are connected via a wireless or wired network which allows two-way signal transmission for controlling and monitoring the system.
According to STC Director Phan Minh Hieu, the system is about 30%-70% more energy-efficient than current street lighting and reduces 80% of maintenance and manpower costs.
Earlier, the system was put on a trial run at the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park in district 9 and the Homyland residential area in district 2 and showed positive results as expected.
S3 technology has been popular in many developed countries, particularly in Europe and the US. It is estimated to save 50%-70% of energy costs.
