Vietnam has promoted the protection of human rights over the past time, a Vietnamese diplomat said at a dialogue session on Vietnam’s national report under the third-cycle UPR of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 22.

He added that the report was prepared with the contributions of the Party and state agencies, domestic and international non-governmental organizations, researchers, and individuals.
Vietnam has also ratified the UN’s human rights mechanisms including the Convention against Torture (CAT) and Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Vietnam’s UPR session drew 122 countries to review how Vietnam ensures human rights and implements previous UPR recommendations.
The UPR working group is scheduled to meet on January 25 to consider the approval of Vietnam’s report which will be submitted to the HRC for official adoption in June 2019.
Established in 2008, the UPR aims to review the protection and promotion of human rights in all member countries via constructive dialogues.
Vietnam has joined all UPR cycles which it accepted in June 2014.
