Vinaphone, first to launch 3G in Vietnam

The Hanoi Times - Mobile phone service provider Vinaphone officially launched its Vinaphone 3G network o­n October 12.

The Hanoi Times - Mobile phone service provider Vinaphone officially launched its Vinaphone 3G network o­n October 12.


This is the first mobile operator in Vietnam to provide customers with mobile information services using 3G technology.


With the new network, Vinaphone will provide six new services including mobile internet, mobile broadband, video call, mobile camera, mobile TV and a 3G portal.


The operator said that the same basic charges as for the current 2G network will be applied to 3G customers.


Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Vinaphone Director Lam Hoang Vinh said by launching the 3G services, Vinaphone expects to increase its turnover from mobile calls and subscribers by 30 percent and to recover its investment capital within seven years.


The company’s 3G network so far covers 13 provinces and cities nationwide and it plans to cover the whole country by 2010.
