Cooperation with Casa Systems is the next step in Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT)'s digital infrastructure development roadmap.
Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Casa System Group this week signed an investment cooperation agreement on 5G network development in Washington D.C. under the witness of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
This is part of Vietnamese Premier Pham Minh Chinh's week-long visit to the US to attend the ASEAN - US Special Summit from May 11 to 17.
The event marks the beginning of a partnership to jointly explore, exploit and apply techniques and technologies in Vietnam’s 5G network development.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between VNPT and Casa Systems is reached in the context that 5G is continuing to be commercialized around the world.
In Vietnam, VNPT Group is focusing on implementing the 5G network strategy and developing a portfolio of digital services, affirming its leading role in digital infrastructure and services.
As a leader in providing solutions for fixed broadband, 4G/5G mobile, and fixed convergence with virtualized mobility, Casa has a diversified product portfolio in 4G core network, 4G/5G, broadband, fiber optic, Internet of Things (IoT), and network solutions (including private networks, fixed wireless access, wireless/wired converged networks, OpenRAN, vBNG, vCCAP).
With the MoU, the two sides expect to cooperate, research, develop, and integrate VNPT's solutions with Casa's technology solutions (such as 5G core and RAN, Security GW) to provide the market with products that meet the needs of customers.
Besides, the two groups will cooperate to provide Casa's technology solutions in the fields of 5G Public/Private Network, 5G IBS, 5G FWA, vBNG, 4G/5G Security GW, WIFI Home Networking, then, Casa will also train and transfer technology to VNPT.
“Cooperation with Casa Systems is the next step in our digital infrastructure development roadmap, focusing on networks development, helping VNPT quickly develop digital services, learn new technologies, improve the capacity of VNPT's human resources, and take advantage of the resources of experts and partners' experience to build solutions and services suitable to the needs of the Vietnamese market,” said VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem at the signing ceremony.
The MoU is the basis for the two sides to discuss in more detail solutions including technical and commercial aspects, and technical testing to be ready for commercial deployment when 5G services are officially commercialized in Vietnam, Liem added.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, trade between Vietnam and the US increased 24% between 2020 and 2021, reaching US$112 billion. The US keeps being Vietnam’s biggest export market while the nation becomes the US’s ninth-largest trading partner last year, according to official statistics.
