Concert & Talk: “Light a Firefly Ray”
Dom Dom would like to invite you to attend a very new platform: “Concert and Talk with the audience: Light a firefly ray.
The event is divided into 2 parts: the first part is a talk with the audience about Experimental Music (in Vietnamese with English translation) and the second part is Graduation Concert of the “Experimental Music Improvisation” course I-2A (In the framework of DomDom’s Education Program). The name “Light a firefly ray” was chosen for both 2 parts because of the meeting points in their spirits.
A Dom Dom (firefly) is small but durable with experimental music! A rare show with so many things to open! The story of “us” and “I” with extreme emotions, beyond the borders and the classic notion of space and time. The music will be presented in a strong and freedom way.
The concert of I-2a Course also has the participation of a few former members of Dom Dom’s previous courses and the pioneering improvisers of Vietnamese experimental music: SonX and Ngo Tra My. Moreover, it is indispensable to mention the instructor, interdisciplinary composer and experimental music improviser Tran Kim Ngoc.

Artist Talk & Workshop with Jocelyn Chng: “Mulled Wine”
Waiting is an inevitable and relentless part of life. It comes in myriad forms, and gives rise to different emotions and physical sensations at different points and in different people.
“Mulled Wine” (working title) is an exploration of these different forms and aspects of waiting in life experienced by the three artists Melissa Quek, Nidya Shanthini Manokara and Jocelyn Chng.
In this workshop Jocelyn will briefly present part of the work, share about some of her processes, and try out a few activities with the participants. A short writing exercise may be involved.
Within the “umbrella” structure of “waiting,” individual personal stories of dance and desire are also unearthed.
Jocelyn is a freelance practitioner, writer and educator in dance and theater, with a keen interest in issues of culture and history, both personal and in wider societal/national contexts. She holds a double Masters in Theater Studies/Research from the Universities of Amsterdam and Tampere, a BA (Hons) in Theater Studies from the National University of Singapore, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Dance Teaching) from the University of Bath.
As a dance educator and practitioner, a large part of her training is in ballet; however, she has been exploring improvisatory forms of movement to a greater extent in the past three-four years. She especially aligns with the framework of the Six Viewpoints created by Mary Overlie, both as a personal creative practice and in movement teaching contexts.
Time: Sunday June 16 from 10:00 am to 12:00 am
