Theater Performance “Woyzeck”

Theater Performance “Woyzeck”.
Theater Performance “Woyzeck”.
“Woyzeck” is an excerpt from a play written by the German doctor and poet Georg Büchner (1813-1837). It was first performed in 1913 in Munich. Since then, it has been translated into numerous languages and reinterpreted many times. It is one of the most played and influential dramas of German literature, which inspired numerous artists to create their own works.
“Woyzeck” performance will be presented for the first time in a public reading by actors of the Youth Theater. Through the performance, we would like to raise a question of whether this work of literature should be further developed into a play.
Time: Sunday, May 12 at 3:00 pm
Venue: Goethe Institut, 56-58 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi
Book Presentation: “Die Welt im Rücken” by Thomas Melle

Book Presentation: “Die Welt im Rücken” by Thomas Melle.
A presentation of the book “Die Welt im Rücken” by Thomas Melle awaits you this  weekend.
How does it feel when you can never be sure of your own personality? And you cannot rely on anything you’ve trusted yet? Thomas Melles “Die Welt im Rücken” provides an insight into such a life. He suffers from bipolar disorder, a disease in which high-altitude flights and deep depressive episodes are close to each other. Having slept with Madonna or met Picasso in Berghain is just as much a part of Melle’s life as years of staying in nothingness. In his novel, he seeks for origins and causes of his illness, in full awareness, never to be able to grasp them completely. Melle does not spare or embellish, thus highlighting the radical nature of his bipolar disorder. His sober descriptions give the reader an immediate insight into the author’s life. An autobiographical work with tragic and bizarre stories.
The translation of “The World in the Back” was part of a social translating project funded by Merck. Ten translators from Asia met online with the author to exchange ideas and clarify details with the author. Le Quang translated the novel into Vietnamese. He translated, among others, Bernhard Schlink’s “Der Vorleser”, Daniel Kehlmann’s “Die Vermessung der Welt” and Daniel Glattauer’s “Gut gegen Nordwind”.

Goethe Institut is loaded with book activities. The introduction of the books “Love Flights” and “Summer Lies” by Bernhard Schlink takes place at the same day, same place.
The world-famous bestselling author Bernhard Schlink writes straightforward about the big topics in life.
Translator Le Quang will present two volumes of the author’s story.
In Bernhard Schlink’s short stories “Liebesfluchten”, the title stands for the program: Seven love stories about desire, closeness and loneliness. The protagonists plunge into love and out of love or flee from love.
Schlink’s “Summer Lies” brings together life plans and riddles, love hopes and emotional illusions. In a simple and clear language Schlink creates contributions full of melancholy.
The translation into Vietnamese was written by Le Quang. In addition to these two books, Le Quang also translated Schlink’s best-selling novel “The Reader” and “The Woman on the Stairway.”
Bernhard Schlink (* 1944) was Professor of Public Law and Philosophy of Law at the Humboldt University, Berlin, until his retirement. He published crime novels and gained worldwide fame with his book “Der Vorleser”.
