The construction of the Nghi Son Iron and Steel International General Terminal serving the development of the Nghi Son Steel Complex began on September 9 in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa.
The terminal covers 71 hectares in the Nghi Son Economic Zone and is an important component of the Nghi Son Steel Complex, which spreads across 630 hectares with a designed capacity of seven million tonnes of steel per year.
The project, which has an investment of 5.85 trillion VND (266 million USD), has nine wharfs with a total length of 2,250 metres and can accommodate a ship of up to 50,000 tonnes. It can also load 30 million tonnes of goods annually.
The first three wharfs, No 1, No 2 and No 2A, will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2016, laying the foundation for the launch of the next stage of the complex.
Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said Nghi Son port and the terminal in particular play an important role in expanding trade and serving the import and export of goods for the north central coastal region, contributing to the social-economic development of Thanh Hoa and nearby areas.
He urged local authorities to create all possible conditions for the investor, the Nghi Son Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company, to complete the project on schedule.
