According to VnMedia, most people favor high-tech luxury TVs, especially as living standards have risen, leading to higher demand and higher prices.

Home appliance shops report that the number of high-tech TV customers have increased by 30-40 percent in comparison with the beginning of 2010. LCD and Plasma TVs now are the top choice of many consumers.

Famous name brand products are most popular, including Sony, Toshiba, LG and Panasonic. Shop owners note that most people like 32 inch TVs priced at 6-8 million dong. High income earners prefer more expensive and more luxurious products, such as the 42 inch Samsung PS-42Q7 plasma TV, which is priced at 49.9 million dong.

High-tech products not o­nly meet demands of high income earners, but also demand by popular buyers. Panasonic 32X10V 32 inch, LG 32LF15 32 inch and Sony Bravia 32T550 32 inch, for example, have price tags of o­nly several million dong o­nly, which fit the pockets of a majority of buyers.

Retailers observe that popular products with popular prices of several million dong will be the best sellers this summer, because they are suitable for families to watch the World Cup.

They also said that since soccer is the ‘king sport’, sales of LCD TVs will increase by 10-20 percent.

According to TV shop owners, electronics producers will some new products with 3D technology, which will allow buyers to view hot football matches with greater interest.

According to Hoang Nam Truong, Marketing Director of Nguyen Kim Home Appliance Centre, the prices of TV products currently remain unchanged. As demand rises, he expects that prices will also go up by 10-20 percent in the next week or two.

Truong added that many home appliance centres have already offered massive promotional campaigns to clear their big stocks.

Pico Home Appliance Centre revealed that some electronics producers have announced price increases for LCD TVs already.

In related news, according to GFK, a market survey firm, the LCD TV market in Vietnam has great potential to develop. In 2009, LCD TV sales increased by 20 percent from 2008 and they anticipate a 30-40 percent growth rate in 2010.
