The two also stressed the importance of continuing realizing cooperation agreements between Vietnam and Laos on all spheres.

Meanwhile, Laos Prime Minister Phankham Viphavanh sent his congratulation to his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh, saying he is committed to building up the bilateral friendship for peace, stability and development of the region and in the world.

China’s President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang also sent messages to their Vietnamese counterparts State President Phuc and Prime Minister Chinh.

Xi highlighted the significance of the long-standing friendship between the two countries, adding China gives priority to the bilateral relations. Xi personally said he is willing to push forward the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China.

The Chinese prime minister in his note to Prime Minister Chinh stressed his commitment to ensure mutual benefits and a win-win situation for two countries in cooperation.

President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Prime Minister Hun Sen held a phone talk with State President Phuc and sent a congratulation note to Prime Minister Chinh.

Hun Sen highly regarded Vietnam’s impressive achievements over the past years, especially in containing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Cambodian leader placed his trust into the friendship relations between the two countries and said bilateral cooperation is key to overcome unprecedented challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a congratulation message to State President Phuc, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the voting results at the National Assembly is an evidence of Phuc’s high credibility.

Given the traditional relations between Vietnam and Russia, Putin said he is confident both countries would continue to boost bilateral strategic partnership for mutual gains and contribute to stability and security in the Asia-Pacific region.

Other world leaders, including Japanese Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, Italy President Sergio Matterella, and President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies Roberto Fico also sent congratulatory notes to Vietnam’s new leaders.

The National Assembly yesterday elected Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc as the State President with an endorsement of 97.5% deputies present. On the same day, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission Pham Minh Chinh was appointed Prime Minister of the country.

On March 31, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue was elected by 98.54% of National Assembly deputies to the posts of National Assembly Chairman and the head of the National Election Council.
