The 20th Vietnam Film Festival 2017, themed ‘Building a modern and humane cinematic industry’ opened at Trung Vuong Theatre, Da Nang city.

The event also featured the participation of both young and old actors, actresses, directors and filmmakers from across the country, as well as nearly 50 international delegates.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam called it a significant event that marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, strengthening the friendship and solidarity among different nationalities. He praised the efforts and great results obtained by the cinema industry in the past few years.
“Generations of artists have made great contributions to the development of filmmaking and national culture. Despite facing difficulties, Vietnam’s cinema industry has still produced unforgettable films to enrich the country’s cultural heritage”, the deputy PM said.
Also yesterday, a photo exhibition honouring 64 film directors, actors and actresses, who have made great contributions to the country’s cinematography, opened at the city’s library.
A series of activities will be held during the five-day event, including free outdoor screenings of films, seminars on the ASEAN film industry and seminars on the development of the Vietnamese movie sector.
In addition, there will be the acceptance of re-make films which will be featured in this year's film festival. Among them, the ASEAN Film Award will introduce the best movies in the region to the world and strengthen the role of the cinema industry in supporting the culture and friendship among the nations of the ASEAN community.
The film festival aims to honor local cinematographic works featuring the traditional characteristics of creativity and pay tribute to movie makers and artists who have made outstanding contributions to the national movie industry.
