In the 4 years since it was first organised, Vietnam Book Day has become a cultural event, treasured by the community, and bringing practical values and effects, Tuan added.
This year’s event is held at a larger scale than previous years, with nearly 20 events, including the introduction of the book “Industry 4.0, revolution of convergence and saving”, talks on “Books – culture, development and integration” and “picture book markets in Vietnam and South Korea”, and other activities such as games, painting contests, and lucky draw.
As part of activities for the launch of the 5th Vietnam Book Day 2018, a literature festival was held at Thong Nhat Park in Hanoi, from April 18 - 24. The festival features over 100 pavilions of nearly 80 publishers nationwide, showcasing 50,000 book titles of various genres. Exchanges between authors and readers and an introduction of popular books are among the highlights of the festival.
In addition, a wide variety of activities will be held to celebrate 2018’s Vietnam Book Day, including the introduction of writers, seminars and exchanges between readers and writers, as well as forums on books and political and cultural events.
On the occasion, a month of publishing books will also be held around the country from April 1 to May 1, featuring the participation of numerous publishing houses. Under the Prime Minister's Decision No. 284 / QD-TTg (February 24, 2014), April 21 was selected as Vietnam Book Day.
In 2017, the 4th Vietnam Book Day with themed “Book and the development of community knowledge” introduced 40,000 book titles with diverse themes and fields, including politics, law, economy, science and technology, education, culture, society and religion. The books have been published by 80 publishing houses and companies from across the country.
