A new cold spell to hit Hanoi on Wednesday

A cold spell is expected to hit northern Vietnam in the night of January 15 with the lowest temperatures in mountainous areas falling to as low as 8-11 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperature in Hanoi is forecast to plunge to between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

A cold spell is expected to hit northern Vietnam in the night of January 15 with lowest temperatures in mountainous areas as low as 8-11 degrees Celsius, some high mountainous areas will suffer 8 degrees Celsius on January 16.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said the cold spell will bring drizzle and last for two or three days.

Moderate and heavy rainfall are expected in Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang provinces, with average of 30 - 100mm/24 hours, said the center. In areas with thunderstorm, there will be a possibility of whirlwinds, lightning and strong winds.

The rain is also expected to stretch down to most areas along the central coast, with average rainfall of 40 - 100mm/24 hours in the next two days.
