Action Month for Work Safety and Hygiene 2017 launched in Hanoi

A ceremony has been recently held in Hanoi to launch Action Month for Work Safety and Hygiene 2017 themed “Enhance training on work safety and hygiene to prevent occupational diseases and accidents”.

The launching ceremony was held by Central Steering Committee for Action Month for Work Safety and Hygiene in cooperation with the Municipal People’s Committee. Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, President of General Labor Federation of Viet Nam Bui Van Cuong and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu were present at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung pointed out risks and causes of occupational diseases and accidents, such as poor awareness and sense of discipline, poor knowledge of the risks of technology, equipment, chemicals and new materials, and unqualified equipments and labor protection supplies.


On the occasion of the launching ceremony, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs honored collectives and individuals having excellent performance in work safety and hygiene.
 


The Minister asked governments at all levels, agencies, organizations, enterprises and laborers to mobilize resources, diversify training methods, improve qualification of trainers and enhance the application of information technology in information work and work safety and hygiene training.

He also urged practical activities in response to the Action Month towards the enterprises and laborers, more inspection, examination and campaigns in the fields prone to occupational diseases and accidents, and severe punishment for violations. For their parts, laborers shall comply with work safety and hygiene regulations and process, take measures to guarantee work safety and hygiene, and proactively enrich their knowledge and safety skills.

In 2016, the Law on Action Month for Work Safety and Hygiene was launched for the first time, and the National Week for Work Safety and Hygiene for the 18th time. Over 7,900 cases of occupational accidents occurred nationwide in 2016, increasing nearly 5% against the last year; over 8,200 people were injured and 862 people died, an increase of around 7% compared to 2015. Fire and explosion tended to increase in production and trade facilities, industry and processing zones, occupational villages and residential areas. 29 cases of serious fire occurred, killing 13 people and causing damage totaling over VND 900 billion.
