Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has submitted to the Ministry of Transport an investment plan to upgrade airports for the period 2018 - 2021 with the vision to 2025.
ACV will invest VND56.7 trillion (US$2.4 billion) to upgrade 15 key airports across Vietnam by 2025, the Giao Thong newspaper cited Chairman of the Board of ACV Le Xuan Thanh as saying.
The airports include Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Phu Bai, Cat Bi, Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh, Vinh, Lien Khuong, Tuy Hoa, Con Dao and Dong Hoi
According to the plan, ACV will build Long Thanh International Airport, which will be around 40 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, in the first phase. In addition, ACV also has an investment project on the construction of three new airports including Dien Bien, Na San and Lao Cai in the North.
The first phase of Long Thanh International Airport project is calculated to cost some VND92.1 trillion (US$4 billion) and is scheduled for completion by 2025. The construction project includes one runway, one passenger terminal and other supporting facilities.
Earlier, ACV announced Vietnam needs VND116 trillion (US$98.4 billion) for building and upgrading three major airports including Long Thanh, Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat as per its investment plan for the period 2018 – 2021 with the vision to 2025.
According to ACV, the upgrade of airports aims to meet increasing travel demand. As per ACV, Vietnamese airports will serve 137 million travelers per year by 2021, and the figure will rise to 185 million a year by 2025.
Vietnam welcomed some 10.4 million foreign visitors in the first eight months of 2018, a 22.8% increase from the same period last year, the General Statistics Office (GSO) has announced.
Arrivals by air, road, and sea in the reviewed period recorded annual increases of 17.3%, 62.1% and 1.6%, respectively while growth was also seen in the numbers of visitors from all five continents.
The airports include Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Phu Bai, Cat Bi, Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh, Vinh, Lien Khuong, Tuy Hoa, Con Dao and Dong Hoi
