Admiring the beauty of Ly Son Island during the moss season

As spring’s warm weather gradually sweeps across Ly Son Island - a heavenly land of the ocean, it ushers in a magical transformation with enchanting landscape that captivates all who visit.

The Hanoi Times — Located in the central province of Quang Ngai, Ly Son Island is known for its unique geography, which includes a series of ancient volcanic rocks, white sandy beaches, and lush green landscapes.

At this time of the year, the island's natural beauty is at its peak, making it the perfect occasion for travelers to experience the once-a-year scenic spectacle.

In late spring, the island transforms into a lush, vibrant landscape, with green moss covering the rocks that rise dramatically from the sea. The volcanic rocks are covered with moss in a range of colors, from bright yellow-green to deep dark green and even golden yellow.

The popular tourist sites on Ly Son Island such as Hang Co (Stork Cave), Thac Lua (Silk Waterfall), Hang Cau (Cau Cave), and Chua Hang (Cave Pagoda) offer visitors a chance to see the moss-covered rocks and cliffs in their most vibrant forms.

Each site has its own unique charm, whether it's the dramatic rock formations of Hang Co, the peaceful seclusion of Hang Cau or the spiritual atmosphere of Chua Hang.

This stunning scenery can only be seen in March when vast expanses of volcanic sedimentary rock are exposed at low tide.

The moss “fields” add magical beauty to the island and serve as the lifeblood of the local community, providing a rich source of highly nutritious food.

Sea moss is commonly used in salads, soups, or as a flavorful seasoning in recipes.

Edible seaweed, in particular, has also become a profitable export and sold to various regions of Vietnam.

It can also be dried for the production of organic fertilizer for garlic, another specialty of Ly Son Island, and for the cultivation of onions.

Visitors must wait patiently as the "field" of green seaweed and moss only appears when the tide goes out.

The picturesque landscape offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in nature.
