Ao Dai Festival Ho Chi Minh City attracts over 100,000 visitors

The festival aims to honor and promote the beauty of Vietnam`s Ao Dai, contribute to preserving and promoting traditional values of the nation.

More than 100,000 visitors went to actitivies at the 2019 Ao Dai Festival Ho Chi Minh City, the sixth of its kind, which concluded on March 17.

According to the organizing board, the sixth Ao Dai Festival Ho Chi Minh City attracted more than 2,600 designers, a 180% increase from last year's edition. Ao Dai is Vietnam's traditional long dress mostly used by women nowadays.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’ Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen said that the festival aims to honor and promote the beauty of Vietnam's Ao Dai, contribute to preserving and promoting traditional values of the nation.
On this occasion, the organizing board honored three persons who have contributed to promote Ao Dai, including curator of the Ao Dao Museum Huynh Ngoc Van, designer Nguyen Sy Hoang and former Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism La Quoc Khanh.
The 2019 Ao Dai Festival kicked off on March 2 evening in Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, drawing numerous visitors. This year, Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie, who sealed a historic top five place of Miss Universe 2018, was the representative of the festival.
The ceremony featured 15 collections of Vietnamese leading ao dai designers like Thu Thuy, Lien Huong and Viet Hung, along with a collection by a designer from South Korea, introducing Vietnam’s Ao Dai from the perspective of an international friend.
About 15 activities and programs were held during the Ao Dai Festival across various tourist spots of Ho Chi Minh City such as Bui Vien and Nguyen Hue pedestrian zones, the city’s post office, the War Remnants Museum, the Ao Dai Museum and public places.
Since 2014, the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival has been held annually in early March.
