It is hoped to raise the role of the APEC forum and Vietnam’s position among member economies. As many as 11 films from 11 APEC member economies have been selected to be screened during the week, including two documentaries.
The opening of the week at the National Cinema Centre in Hanoi on October 11 and the Le Do Cinema in Da Nang city on October 12 will be marked with the screening of Vietnamese film “My nhan” (The Beautiful Woman) by director Dinh Thai Thuy.
The movie sketches a portrait of Nguyen Phuc Tan, the fourth ruler of the Nguyen Lords, who is viewed as a good lord and a military talent. He helped expand Vietnam’s territory further to the south.
The real drama of the movie, however, isn’t his military triumphs and general wisdom. It lies in his relationship with a beautiful concubine whom he loves but his courtiers disdain. And finally, he has to choose between his love for a woman and his interests.
