Art contest calls for ASEAN talent

A competition for promoting understanding among member countries of ASEAN has been launched in Hanoi.

The competition, entitled 2nd ASEAN Graphic Arts Competition and Exhibition - Vietnam 2016, is being held by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition and International Co-operation Department of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry of Vietnam, in collaboration with the ASEAN countries’ embassies in Vietnam and the Vietnamese embassies in ASEAN countries.
The contest is an opportunity for Vietnamese and ASEAN artists to exchange experiences and showcase new works of print painting and graphic art.
All artists from ASEAN countries can upload photos of a maximum of two of their works to the competition website aseangraphicart.vn. The works must be dated between 2013 and March 2016.
The works should have themes about country and people in contemporary life, which strengthen the solidarity and friendship among the people and co-operation and development in art among the ASEAN countries.
The organisers will receive the entries till July.

The Culture Ministry will award a first prize of 50 million VND (2,300 USD); two second prizes of 30 million VND each; three third prizes of 20 million VND each, and five consolation prizes of 5 million VND each.
The award-winning works and other outstanding entries will be displayed at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts in December.
The first, second and third prize winners will be provided a return ticket to Hanoi and three-day accommodation to receive the prizes and attend the exhibition’s opening ceremony.
For further information, please contact 84-963983738; 84-695930083; or 84904981990, and email phuonghs01@gmail.com; hoangminhducbvh@gmail.com or phuongdang.dav@gmail.com.
Following the success of the first such exhibition held in 2012, the second edition is expected to create a forum for graphic artists in the ASEAN countries to allow them to interact and introduce new graphic art works in the region, as well as promote the culture, people and life of each member country as a solid and dynamic community.
