August 11: Vietnam confirms 16 more Covid-19 cases

Since the novel coronavirus reemerged in Danang on July 25, as many as 398 local infections have been detected in 15 cities and provinces.

Sixteen more coronavirus cases in Vietnam were reported on Tuesday, taking the tally to 863.

Of the newly-infected infections today, 10 are from Danang, four in the neighboring province of Quang Nam, and two in Quang Tri.

With the infections in the last few days, authorities in four provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, and Haiphong have taken a number of precautionary measures, including quarantining and isolating affected areas.

Quang Nam, which is home to well-known ancient city Hoi An, has so far put 13 residential areas with more than 9,000 residents under lockdown. Quang Nam is the second largest hot spot of coronavirus in Vietnam since the resurgence of the virus in the community on July 25. As of August 11, the province has declared 87 cases. 

Quang Tri has put its capital city of Dong Ha under lockdown and suspended all buses from and to this locality.

Khanh Hoa has closed non-essential services like bars, karaoke lounges, and banned gatherings for cultural and sports events. It has also quarantined people who made contact with Covid-19 patients.

Haiphong is tracing people coming into contact with two Covid-19 patients who traveled from Danang. The local authorities have closed some places where the infected people appeared.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Health announced one more death who is a 37-year-old man in Quang Tri. His death causes include pneumonia caused by Covid-19, type-1 diabetes, and cardiovascular failure. This is the 17th dead victims in Vietnam since July 31.

Vietnam now has 448 active cases under treatment at hospitals.
