August 16: Vietnam’s Covid-19 caseload climbs to 962

On Sunday, seven patients in Danang, including one medical staffer, were declared to be free from Covid-19.

With 12 novel coronavirus cases detected on Sunday, Vietnam’s total infections amount to 962, according to statistics of the Ministry of Health.

Two thirds of the daily caseload are from Danang, the epicenter that has recorded the largest number of Covid-19 patients and deaths, 349 and 20, respectively.

Among the newest cases, one is a two-month-old infant and one from Hanoi.

On the same day, seven patients in Danang, including one medical staffer, were declared to be free from Covid-19 and discharged from hospital.

An illegal Chinese immigrant tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on August 14. He is identified as Patient No.912.

On July 27, the 27-year-old man together with seven other Chinese nationals unlawfully entered Vietnam. On July 27-29, the group went to Ho Chi Minh City from northern Vietnam.

On July 30, these men were found illegally staying in the city and sent to a concentrated quarantine establishment. The Chinese people tested negative for the virus three times before one of them tested positive for the virus on August 12. Currently, this man is under treatment at Cu Chi Field Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Since the confirmation of the first locally-infected case in Danang on July 25, Vietnam has confirmed 499 local infections in 15 cities and provinces namely Danang with 349 cases, Quang Nam 95, Ho Chi Minh City 11, Hanoi 9, Quang Tri 7, Bac Giang 6, Quang Ngai 5, Lang Son and Hai Duong 4 each, Dak Lak 3, Dong Nai 2, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Thanh Hoa, and Khanh Hoa 1 each.
