The project is the first solar power plant in Mekong Delta province of Long An.
Energy firm BCG Bang Duong, a subsidiary of Bamboo Capital Group, started construction of a 40.6-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Long An worth US$42 million, the government portal reported.
The project, which covers an area of 50.2 hectares in Thanh An commune, Thanh Hoa district and is scheduled to be put into operation by June 2019, will be the first solar power plant in Long An province, stated Tran Van Can, chairman of the Long An People's Committee, at the ground breaking ceremony on September 16.
Can added that the project marks an important milestone in the province's energy development scheme, laying foundation for other similar projects in Long An in the upcoming time.
Once completed, the plant is expected to produce 60 million kWh of power each year, enhancing the capacity of the national power grid. The project also includes the construction of an 110kV transformer station, road transport infrastructure, a pumping station system for reservoirs and a 9 kilometers length transmission line.
BCG's President Nguyen Ho Nam informed that Syntegra Solar, a German company specializing in renewable energies, took part in the design process and acts as supervisor of the project.
In addition to the project of BCG Bang Duong, BCG is investing in two other solar power projects in Long An with capacity of 100MW and 50 MW, respectively.
