Boosting defence ties between Vietnam and Cuba

A Cuban high-ranking military delegation led by Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, is visiting Vietnam from December 16 – 23 at the invitation of the Vietnam Minister of Defence Phung Quang Thanh.

At the talks on December 21, the two ministers discussed issues of mutual concern, reviewed defence cooperation in recent times and proposed measures to boost bilateral cooperative ties in the future.

Bilateral defence cooperation focuses on providing mutual support to ensure their independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, stable political system, peaceful life of their people and prosperous development.

The two armies agreed to enhance their traditional friendship, political strength and military spirit, and share experience in Party building, personnel training and all issues relating to defence and security.

During the talks, the two ministers compared notes on the results obtained in the framework of the defence cooperation agreement signed in 2011 and the 2014-2016 defence cooperation plan signed this year.

Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias believed that the Cuban delegation’s visit will help consolidate friendship cooperation between the two peoples and armies. During the stay in Vietnam, the Cuban delegation laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument, President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and visited some army units.
